Welcome to my column with Caledonista. Each fortnight I’ll be alternating between beauty and fashion; sharing my favourite looks, trends and products with you.
This has been my go-to Christmas night out look – a statement glitter eye, with a plum tinted lip gloss. I rarely wear both a statement eye look and a statement lip look together, so I find that lip gloss is a good way to still do a red-ish lip without distracting from your eyeshadow.
I used a gold eyeliner pencil from Wunder 2 (Super Stay Liner in Metallic Gold - £12.95) to fill in my lid and outline my whole eye, along the lower lash line. I then packed on some loose glitter pigment to my lid with a little bit of glitter makeup adhesive. I love a classic gold look, but you could use any colour of glitter you have. On my lips i’ve used a sparkly lip plumping lip gloss from Buxom (Full-On Lip Polish in the shade Stacy - £48 as part of set).
New Beauty I’m Loving
Bare Minerals have a beautiful selection of Christmas gift sets this year. One of my favourites is the Starstruck Glamour Set - £25 from Bare Minerals. It comes in a stunning gold pouch that you can re-use when you travel, and contains a loose blusher in shade Luxury, an eyeshadow in shade The Star Material, and a Mini Moxie Plumping Lipgloss in the shade Starlet – a lovely selection of product for a quick super-glam makeup look.
Buxom, which haven’t been long available in the UK, have an exciting new upcoming release that you’ll be able to get from January. The Buxom Plumpline Lip Liners (£15 from Debenhams) is a chunky lip liner that you can use to fill in your whole lips – perfect for those who like to wear lip liner alone. It contains plumping Hyaluronic Acid and has such a creamy formula with a matte finish. I love the nude shades, but there are 20 different ones ranging from caramel to daring red.
Estee Lauder have a new mascara. Their Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara (£25.50 from Estee Lauder) has a huge, fat wand, with different bristles on each side. This allows you to get volume and lift with the bristled side, and length and separation with the plastic bristled side. No more reaching for two different mascaras! The colour is very black, and it doesn’t transfer to underneath your eyes throughout the day.
MAC is opening a stand-alone store this week at Glasgow’s Braehead shopping centre; offering MAC addicts even more opportunity to shop the brand. All of the brand’s latest collections will be available, and there will be MAC makeup artists on hand in store to help you decide what works for you.
Barry M Cosmetics have added scented nail varnish to their popular nail polish line-up. The new Candy Culture collection features candy-inspired colours and scents with a matte finish - Strawberry Laces, Raspberry Sherbet, Blueberry Bonbon and Coconut Cream. They will be priced at £3.99 each, and you can grab them from Superdrug on 3rd January, and Boots from 17th January. The perfect way to start introducing your nails to the spring season.
