Hello, I am Erin Gavin, an actress out here in Hollywood following a dream! Six years ago I packed my suitcase and headed for the place they say where dreams are made of. Back then I had no idea what to expect, I knew no one but one thing I did know was that my dream was far greater than my fear.
Sometimes we plod through life and think that success and dreams are simply fantasy and far from reality and you've probably heard this before but you can make it happen, you just have to conquer the fear. This article isn't only about sharing my life, Los Angeles and the entertainment world, but I also want to inspire you as it would mean a lot to me if I am able to help in some way.
When I arrived in Los Angeles I created a plan of action and part of that plan was to get myself a good agent. I knocked on many, many doors and eventually signed with Media Artist group and Joe Florence who took me under their wing and to this day are still part of my team. If you are thinking of coming to LA to follow your dream you must have a plan of action, a working visa (to suit your career path) and financial stability. Fortunately I set up a company in the United Kingdom called EGA Talent 13 years ago and made it a success. It has helped me to live my LA lifestyle.
The last six years has had it’s ups and downs. I have had numerous rejections from casting directors, agents, managers and directors but I have learned that it simply means that they are not right for me...kinda like buying a dress online, often it’s just not the right fit.
I have had moments where I asked myself that question...Am I good enough?! But I have to remind myself from time to time that I am. I have talent and skills. I continue to learn, and, I work my butt off for what I love. Something you love is worth fighting for.
Fast forwarding to six years on...I have played Marilyn Monroe on a famous Hollywood stage, Broadway NYC and London's West End. I produced one of the play tours and the show was one of the top 10 in the USA. I am about to shoot my fourth million dollar movie since arriving in LA and I am receiving offers for exciting new projects. It all sounds very LA Glam but it’s all work (with some play :))
We are in the middle of award season and my world consists of dress fittings, red carpets, networking, script readings, checking back in with my EGA talent agency at home (UK) and meetings. Never a dull moment. I never thought that I could achieve all I have so far but if I can do it so can you!
I was home last month for the World Premiere of the movie ‘Trainspotting 2’ and it was just lovely to attend a premiere in Edinburgh, Scotland. I wore a sheer dress that my Mum picked. Sometimes Mums do know best. The dress was a hit with every media tabloids so I insisted that she pick my Grammy dress as well! The Grammys is now ticked off my bucket list. I walked that famous Grammy carpet amongst the legends of the world. Sometimes I have to pinch myself but then I remember the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices I have made thus far.
But sooo...worth it. Xx
